GFI Guitars and Keyless Tuning Systems

i am looking at several guitars and the GFI keeps floating back to the top.

i agree it looks a little small, but so does an opamp. who feels they get real gains in the GFI design?

also, how good is the GFI Keyless design? the last one i owned was on a Sierra and it was hard to do in the dark I (using the allen wrench) and also you offen did not take enough slack out of the strings and you ended up running into the PSG body before the proper pitch was reaached. if that happened you really had to throw the sring away and start over. how does teh GFI compare?

any other comments?

Billy, I have a GFI keyless. It sound and plays great, is easy to restring, and stays in tune. It is lightweight and dependable. I've only been playing a year,but had no trouble changing my GFI from Day to Evans in about one hour.Great guitar!! JP

i picked up on the fact that many touring steelers prefer GFI. i undersand what a touring steel player needs, but what about session players? i guess the 'A Players' at that point in their career are into certain brands and do not change often??? But are their any technical or musical issues as well? accuracy and staying in tune along with electrical / mechancial quietness are key of cousrse.

any opinions?

All you need to do is listen to Mike Sigler either live or on a recording. He flat plays the heck out of his GFI Ultra and swears by it. I bought one based on his recommendation and couldn't be happier with it - easy to play, easy to maintain, stays in tune, and tons of tone.

yep, i think i am sold on the GFI. i have not heard ONE negative about this guitar ohter than it looks different and yess it does. I am going to go with the Keyless Tuning also. I do feel from what engneering i know, that the GFI Ultra Keyless should have better sustain, less string breakage (especially the S3) and improved tuning / returning in tune. Now nthe tone could go either way as it depends on what PU you may have installed.

I'll let ya'll know how it turns out. If it's close to the ZUMM i owned ~7 years back, its good one!
