Franklin bellcranks

Post by Jerry Roller »

Can someone describe the bellcranks presently being used on Franklin guitars?
Also, are the presently used belly rods aluminum or is Mr Franklin using steel?
Thanks,
Jerry

Jerry I understand the rod pullers as Mr. Franklin insist I call them. Image are the same as on the early models. As for the rods I'm not sure.Maybe this is good for a bump..........bb

Looking at my 82 Franklin, it appears to be all aluminum underneath. About the only thing that is not aluminum is the pedal rods.

As far as I know the same thing is used on the current models.

As a side note, after 22 years there is no detectable wear in any of the mechanical parts. I had Mr Franklin check it over about 3 or 4 years ago and he told me "I can't find any wear". The guitar has a "lot" of playing time on jobs, it hasn't sat at home.

All Franklins use aluminum bellcranks/rod pullers, and aluminum rods. The bellcranks/rod pullers must be installed by being slipped over the end of the cross shaft in question; i. e., one end of the cross shaft must be made accessible.

The cranks/pullers come in two varieties; the shorter ones have 4 slots, the longer ones, more typical, have 6 slots. The cranks/pullers are held to the cross shaft by a set screw. The cross shafts are round with a flat; the set screw meets the flat surface.
