strings WOW

Post by Jimmie Martin »

you guys are going to say that i'm crazy but its the truth. i changer my strings on my d-10 carter and i used tommy white jagwire strings on my c-6th neck ok. now here goes. i have been practicing buddy emmons c-6th course and now my guitar sounds almost like buddy. no kiddin. the single notes do sound just like him. i would say that if i had more time in my practicing i could match that tone. i promise this is the truth. the pickup is a truetone. now i'm not trying to say that a guy with 6 months plays like buddy emmons that would be stupid but the sound is close. real close. please don't take this as a cheap shot buddy not at all. but i was suprised. i got them from the forum a while back and i'm sure that bobb will testify that i bought them from the forum.i can see the emails flying to my address wanting to lynch me up now

Robert, Glad you tried a set of Jagwires. I've been using them for about a year and a half and just love them. I like about any nickle wound string but the Jags just seem to have that something extra that you just can't quite put your finger on. Whatever one's preference is, stainless or nickel, more and more players are using them. Tone, sustain, durability, it's all there. I've tried many brands of strings over the years, most of which I generally liked and could use. Then I bought a couple sets from Richard McDonald at Spririt Steel in Broken Arrow, Ok, and like you I couldn't beleive the difference in tone. I called the Danny at Jagwire and got a couple stickers to put on my guitar, I was that impressed. IMO, Jags, TrueTone pickups, and a Hilton volume pedal, rounded out my sound, and I hope to soon add Brad Sarno's Black Box, just to put the icing on the cake. sorry I got so carried away just to say " I'm glad you like them". Anyway........

Robert--Please excuse me for butting in---just my 2 pennies worth--- The Hilton Pedal is "The best thing since sliced bread" for more reasons than one. Lot's of local guys here use it as well as a growing host of "pros" - Image

I switched to Jagwires a couple of weeks back - and I'm delighted with them!

I restrung both necks, and I've done around a dozen 'Always - Patsy...' shows on them since then. The clarity and balance remain top-notch. I did change the 3rd and 5th on E9, as a precaution, so I can't say whether or not their life is any longer than my old strings (Emmons). I DO know I like the sound of that .0115.

As for 'sounding like Buddy' - well, not yet, but maybe that'll come next week.... Image

Thanks again, Danny Hullihen, for the great service!

I read one time where Buddy said he used George L's and for no particular reason. I have never tried the Jagwire strings but maybe I should give them a try. This is no shot at anyone, but I know regardless of what I play or use I will never sound like Buddy Emmons. However, that would be a very nice dream for me.

Robert, My tone remains the same throughout the pedal travel with the Hilton. It has the same circuitry (sp), built into it as comes in the Hilton Digital Sustain unit. Also has no pots or string to go bad. Quiet as a church mouse. I think it is a great and invaluable piece of equipment.

Robert ,
Congrat's on your tone !!....When you finally find the right formula for yourself, you'll be surprised how it inspires you to play more ... If you hear the Buddy Emmons tone in your head, God bless you , cause there are not many tones that can sound THAT GOOD !!... I also have to agree with the others in reguard to the Hilton pedal ...I can almost guarantee that it will become a part of your arsenal when you see what it brings to your tone....Good Luck.....Sincerely, Jim
