Question for Paul Franklin

Post by Ron ! »

Paul

I might start bidding on this one.
Is this really one of your old steel guitars?

Cool guitar.
Bet it's legit.
Paul is from the Detroit area originally.

How 'bout it, PF?

Larry

Looks like one of the first Sho-Buds.
Am I right?

I'll bet it predates Sho-Bud, but I could be wrong. Could be one Mr. Franklin built before he moved to Nashville. Does look like the white Bud fretboards but they may not be original.

Hopefully Paul will show up before long for the real story.

There is a picture of Paul on his web-site, in the photo album section, playing a guitar that looks alot like the one on e-bay. He was on the Bill Anderson Show at age 12.

Is it my eyes or are most of the pull rods and cross rods missing?

Somebody who knows this guitar will chime in with the whole story. But it looks like some of the pedals don't use a whole cross rod. They either have a short rod or just a crank. And it looks like the pull rods don't run straight, but are attached to a single bell crank for some pedals. It's possible it was made that way, otherwise, someone has put the thing back together really screwy.

This looks like the steel Paul played when he was 12 years old.
check this link: http://paul-franklin.com/photos1a.htm

This steel was sold on ebay some time ago and now it`s up again.

I think Paul stated that this was indeed one of his steels from the old days.....

Larry, and David,
Thats the way Shot did it on the first Buds. If you ain't gonna pull it, ( short shafts on E9 neck )why put a shaft there. Also if needed to change pedal setup, you had to take it back to Shot, or be able to weld.

Ronald,
It is Paul's first steel built by my dad at our home in Michigan. Dad bought some of the parts from Shot & David. Dad also made some of the parts.
It sure brings back fond memories seeing that steel again! Image

Thanks, Theresa
