string spacing

Post by Andy Greatrix »

Are there any steels out there that have 3/8ths of an inch spacing at the bridge and nut? What is the string spacing of GFI?

Pedal or non-pedal? My old Magnatone D8 non has about that. Never have seen a pedal with that. Since you don't have to slant there isn't too much point.

The old PS 210's had 11/32 spacing at the nut and the bridge.

My Guya (Guyatone?) D8 has a 3/8" spacing throughout on both necks.

I had a S12 player trying to do some picking on my D8 and it was hilarious. The poor guy looked like a drunk trying to find the strings. Image

Frank, that was cute! Image

I frequently get that same feeling.

A friend of mine is going to build an eight string lap steel for me. I want to be able to do slants and maybe behind the bar pulls as well. I'm trying to find out the pros and cons, like will I have trouble finding a pickup that will be wide enough (or too wide.)I'm thinking of a using a D13th.

My sho-Bud Pro 1 has 3/8(12/32) spacing at the pickup, or close to it. I know it is wider thant most guitars I have had. I like it. It's easier for the old fingers to hit the right strings......al Image
