Sirius Hawaiian Music Channel?

Post by George Keoki Lake »

I wonder how many STEEL GUITAR FORUMITES subscribe to SIRIUS which is normally heard on new car audio systems ? The reason I ask; SIRIUS provides many excellent channels of great music, everything from jazz to blue grass and virtually all music which has originated in the U.S. .... except for one form of American music.....HAWAIIAN ! I have contacted SIRIUS asking them to remove one of their far too many rock channels to be replaced by an all HAWAIIAN format. Perhaps others feel as I do and could contact SIRIUS requesting an all HAWAIIAN channel ?

I would enjoy a dedicated Hawaian channel on Serious. I regularly listen to the Outlaw, Willie's Road House, Water Color and and now the Garth Channel. Water Color is easy listening and lots of guita and sax.

They have a link to send emails or you can chat with a live person during working hours.

I agree a Hawaiian station would be a good option. I wonder how much traffic it would get compared to the other stations already active.

A Hawaiian channel wold be GREAT! I would certainly listen to it.
They could dump the Garth channel and put it in there.

How about a "steel " channel? Includes Hawaiian, Texas Swing, Classic Country, roots, etc.
A banjo, like a pet monkey, seems like a good idea at first.

I have a feeling that a steel guitar only channel would have an even smaller audience than a Hawaiian only channel.

I think this subject belongs in Music, not Steel Without Pedals.

I subscribe to Sirius, unlikely that they, a subscription-based service, would consider as their genres are quite broad. Internet radio is a better bet. Consider the following:

1. Aloha Joe http://alohajoe.com has a 24/7 steel guitar only channel, it is not live:
http://steelguitarisland.com

2. "Instrumentally Yours": my live Internet radio show which airs Sunday nights 9pm Pacific Time in which instrumentals are focussed and, you bet, the steel guitar features often along with others. I have, at various times over a year of its inauguration, featured Jerry Byrd, Alan Akaka, Jeff Au Hoy, Benny Kalama, Gabby Pahinui, Bobby Ingano, Greg Sardinha, Buddy Emmons, Paul Daniels, Jeff Newman, Chuck Lettes...and others. See relevant topic/thread on this Forum for details of how to "tune in".

Don't expect to hear exclusively steel guitar music on any station, for which the audience is limited but Aloha Joe comes closest.

I agree Kay, but I can't get internet radio while driving around in my car. I think most Sirius listeners do their listening in their cars as I do.
I sure get tired of all the banjos on the bluegrass channel as well as mojo nixon on the outlaw channel

Not yet, Gary, getting Internet in your car is a few years away. However, I do have my show recorded and if you send me your email address, I can add you to the listener list so that you can download the show to your hard disk and then to CD-R or flash drive to listen in your car.

Yes, Sirius coverage is patchy, but I do enjoy their 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s shows and a few others ( Deep Tracks, Velvet etc) while driving. I think Internet radio is the future because of its reach and also it is not (yet) syndicated. I have listeners all over the world. Which is why I need to record the show due to inconvenient time differences.

Have not seen you in a while as I am busy on Tuesday/Thursday nights, hope you are doing well.

Any chance you're coming to Co. next week? We could talk about it in person.
