The important thing isn't the question you're asking, but the input and output impedance values.
I submit that nearly all amps will sound better with three springs and medium or long delay.
2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects

Webb reverb tank

Post by Jim Park »

Here are the tanks that Webb used,
Pre-1980 amps used at least three Accutronic 2-spring reverb tanks: the 4FB3A1B and the•4FB2A1B. Later, the short, 3-spring, 4BB2A1B tank was used.Manufacturing of the first series was suspended in 1981.
1994-2004 All reverb tanks were the shorter Accutronic tanks with 3 springs, the ABB2A1B.•Production of the second series ended in 2004.
2006 - On same chassis. I got this info from www.manualslib.com, but I think it came from Tom Bradshaw.

I put a 3 spring (6 actually) long delay tank in my NV 1000 and it sounds lots better.....

Heres a breakdown of the number meaning I lifted from one of Ken Foxs' posts

1st character: 4 = 17" tank, 2 spring
8 = 9" tank, 3 spring
9 = 17" tank, 3 spring

2nd character: input impedance at 1000hz
type 4 tank type 8 and 9
A= 8 ohms 10 ohms
B= 150 ohms 190 ohms
C= 200 ohms 1240 ohms
D= 250 ohms 240 ohms
E= 600 ohms 800 ohms
F= 1475 ohms 1925 ohms

3rd character: output impedance at 1000hz
type 4 tank type 8 and 9
A= 500 ohms 600 ohms
B= 2250 ohms 2575 ohms
C=10000 ohms 12000 ohms

4th character: decay time
1= short, 1.2 to 2.2 seconds
2= medium, 1.75 to 3.0 seconds
3= long, 2.75 to 4.0 seconds

5th character: connector arrangement
A= input grounded, output grounded
B= input grounded, output insulated
C= input insulated, output grounded
D= input insulated, output insulated

6th character: locking device
1= no locking device

7th character: mounting plane

A= horizontal, open side up
B= horizontal, open side down
C= vertical wall, long axis horizontal, connectors up
D= vertical wall, long axis horizontal, connectors down
E= vertical wall, long axis vertical, input up
F= vertical wall, long axis vertical, output up

That's an impressive list Jim.

Another tank that has a cult following is the Folded Line tanks made by beautiful girls in Wisconsin. They are reportedly made by Gibbs which appeared in some Fenders and even Peavey used them.

I think that experimenting with different tanks in your amp to your ears is another way to dial in reverb that appeals to you.

Thanks Godfrey, but I can't take credit.... I lifted that list from a post by Ken Fox. I had to replace my reverb tank in my NV 1000 so I thought I'd post that list.

Two articles I use when I have a brain fart on reverb tanks.
