MSA classic which pickup

Post by Brian Henry »

What do you think is the best pickup for an MSA classic? One that will give it a bgight tone.

Is this a plywood/formica Classic? If so, I'd recommend an equalizer to improve the tonal possibilities. If it's an "SS" (solid-wood) model, I'd ask Jerry Wallace to wind you a Trutone to 14k, or go to an E66 if you're into humbuckers.

What Donny said.
I switched from E66's to TrueTones on my Classic SS. It sounds great with both.
I personally like the single coil sound, but i'll keep the E66's. Just in case Image

The old Bill Lawrence double blade pickup is very hard to beat on a wood body classic.

I don't know which MSA Jim Phelps has, but whichever pick up that he has on his guitar is what I'd want. love that tone! Image
