Buddy's 2nd Solo On "Waiting"

Post by Chris Templeton »

I believe I posted Buddy's 1st solo on my song "Waiting" and here is a clip of his second: http://picosong.com/ZLEh/.
I hear heavy compression on the steel, which I think was probably added at the mixing board, rather than by Buddy.

Thanks for sharing that, Chris..Killler! Very George Bensonish.
The compression sound more like an effect to me that your typical studio limiting. Maybe Buddy was rocking his Dyna Comp?

Chris - Thanks again very much for posting the 2nd solo from "Waiting" and yes you did post the first one. Towards the end this solo Emmons plays the "Pat Martino monster lick." Here is Pat Martino to demonstrate his method for playing chromatics on the guitar. Martino calls this "Octavistics."

The time signature and phasing remind me of something--Poco? Loggins and Messina?--altho 'Fascinating Rhythm' comes to mind for some reason.
I always like it when he reached for the wild notes and hit them, just like he knew they would work.

Buddy used an MXR Phase 1

The compressor he used was called an "Orange Squeezer".

It simply plugged into the end of the steel.

I had one, but it finally died and was buried.
