Best reverb sound for pedal steel??

I have a digitech RP360 effects box...it has a lot of reverb choices...does anyone have a direction suggestion for me?? For example plate or spring..room or hall etc?

I use a combination of the Vintage plate with a analog delay .
It sounds very good to my ears.
Of course what you are playing through makes a big difference . I use different settings if I'm playing through the PA verses playing through my steel amp . I use the PC editor for all the changes and how the effects are routed .

A spring setting will give you what is usually in an amp, I find the plate settings too harsh for my taste. I usually use small hall or large room settings, if you, can add a bit of delay to it, and you can get some great sounding settings.

There is no single best. They all work. It's just a matter of finding one that you like.

Nobody is ever going to approach you on a gig and tell you that you're using the wrong reverb pedal. Nor will they tell you you're using the wrong gauge of pick, or that you should be using a different kind of string, or that your pedals or knee levers are arranged incorrectly.

Thanks guys.. That will get me started tweaking..I can add delay by the way..anyone tried a little chorus added in?? Might be to much..

This is a bit like asking which color is best – everybody has a different opinion. Try all the options available and trust your ears, that's the only sound advice (no pun intended).

Except another steel player, who, for reasons unknown to him, is not working that night.

A handy little unit for a steel player is a case that Boss makes where you can place a reverb pedal, a delay pedal and a chorus pedal. That's just about all that's needed for a steel player.

I'm down to using one effect. The hall reverb on a Holy Grail. I like that the tail does not die until you pick your next note.

That is the same Boss 3 pedal case I use. There is also room for a Boss power supply in the upper left corner and. Boss TU-12 tuner below the handle.

99% of the time varying levels of HALL reverb work for me.

I'm quite fond of a large plate reverb myself, and my favorite brand of reverb is the Lexicon. The MPX550, which comes up for sale on the SGF from time to time, is the one I use. I've not heard the Strymon Blue Sky, but that seems like a good one to try out.

My 1st reverb was a stand alone unit made by Fender.
I used that in conjunction with a Fender bass amp.
I sold it when I got a Twin Reverb but I bought another, reissue model, a couple of years ago.
This gives you the true, classic reverb sound.

I recently purchased a WET Reverb. It is probably the best sounding reverb that I have had. I have used Boss exclusively for the past 30 years. Boss is a good way to go and it is cheaper. The depth of the WET is adjustable. I add a slight amount of delay, 1 bounce and not very loud. Even though I use a small amount of reverb depending upon the room, it makes the sound not so dry. Be aware that too much reverb will cloud the true steel tone and ruin a good player. I think that Franklin uses a tiny bit if any at all. In the old days more reverb was used that in todays music.

Hi Friends,

For years I have used my 1963 outboard Fender unit exclusively. About a year ago I decided to look into a little different sound for some of the things I was doing. Since then, I have purchased and sold five reverbs ( EQD Afterneath, Catalinbread Talisman, Hardwire Supernatural, Mr Black Supermoon, TC Hall of Fame).Maybe I am too picky, but none of them sounded musical to my ear.

Then I picked up a Red Panda Context reverb. Wow. it is by far the best of the ones I have tried. The control you have over each of the modes is unbelievable. The Plate is astonishingly good, as are all the others. This does not have spring, but my Fender takes cacre of that. If you must have a spring, The Catalinbread Topanga is the only one to get.

You can pick one up for around $175 used. The most important thing to mention is that the trails have no digital artifacts that I can hear. On of the reasons may be that it is not built around a Belton Brick, which does sound digital.

This is just my opinion, but I had to chime in as it is near and dear to my heart. If you have reverb in your amp, that might be good enough. But if reverb is as important to you as it is to me, check out the Context!
