I spent a bunch of time trying to find one. There are some free utilities but they won't handle copy-protected DVDs.
The one not-free utility that I was tempted to go ahead and buy doesn't seem to be 100% certain to be able to handle state of the art copy protection either, making it potentially an expensive ($40-50) dud. So if anyone's got an answer, I'm interested too.

Sounds like DRM is working. If movie makers thought their expensive movies would end up propagating everywhere at no cost, they'd probably find some other way to earn a living.

Believe me, I am not anti-protection.
But until this January I was taking 6 hour round trip train treks to visit my dad and I really wanted to be able to rip some DVDs I've bought so that I could carry them in a flash drive for laptop viewing. I defer to the protection of the artist's rights and I've lived with this situation and will continue to...unless I can find an end-around.
