Sudden lack of return on 4th string C6th Carter

Post by John McGann »

All of a sudden, my 4th string raises and lowers don't return the open 4th string (C6th) to pitch on my D-10 Carter. I changed strings two weeks ago and everything was fine up until now...I oiled the roller nut and between the fingers...true for p7 as well as the knee levers...any ideas? The old return spring trick...which is a 'last resort' in the owner's manual?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like it's over-tuned. Check to see if there is slack in the pull rods used on this string and also the cross shafts used to activate this string. Or, back off the tuning nuts one at a time without activating any pedals or knee levers and see if the open pitch drops or raises.

Then increase the travel of the pedal or knee lever using the correct stop adjustment screw.

Call me at 972 288-9100 if your still having problems.

Try replacing the offending string! That's always the first thng I recommend when someone encounters tuning problems. Your problem could be as simple as having the wrong guage string.
