De bug downloads

Post by Harold Dye »

Does anyone know how effective and safe the computer clean up downloads are that pop up on a page. They pop up and tell you it will check to see if you have problems and once they analyze it they always try to sell the program to complete the process. I just recently had one pop up that had the Microsoft and McAfee logos and once it checked it wanted to sell me the program to complete the process. I am cautious about these and should have never let it go that far. If these are safe does anyone have one that has a good reputation?

The only thing they really do is lighten your wallet. These types of programs, whether they call them repair programs, speed up your PC or whatever are mostly "snake oil" and should be avoided.

Some can even cause more problems than they fix.

You didn't mention which browser you're using, but with Firefox set to "Block Pop-ups", and add-ons for it running (AdBlock Plus, Blur, and YesScript), I never even see those annoying things anymore.

As already noted, they're toxic, and I'd rather French-kiss a rattlesnake than take their bait.

Dave I am using FireFox. I thought I had a block because when I try to open some things it will tell me it is blocked. I will check it out. Thanks
