Head Lamp

I just got a little pre-Christmas present: a flashlight with an elastic headband that you can wear on your forehead. Kinda like the helmet lanterns that coal miners use. Only this is a lot smaller: 2 5/8" wide, 1 5/8" high and 1 3/8" thick. It is powered by 3 AAA batteries and has 2 white LEDs that can be switched to 1 red LED. It's made by ENERGIZER, and I don't know if it's for sale in the States. Price in Germany 15 Euros (17.40 $).

This little thing comes in very handy while working on the undercarriage of a PSG. No more holding a pen light with your teeth while trying to put on a retainer clip on the swivel of a pushrod bellcrank.

The light is very bright and its angle is adjustable. The red light is supposedly for working in the darkroom.

Granted, you'll look like one of Snow White's vertically challenged friends, but you didn't look much better smoking that pen light, either.

Sporting goods stores have small lights with a single penlight bulb on a flexible neck you can swivel around to about any direction you want. Its smaller than a pack of cigarettes, takes AA batteries, and has a clip for belt, pocket, etc. Look in the trout fishing accesseries, usually under $5

Those headlamps are great for everything: Working on your PSG, Car, replacing the filter on your furnace (especially if it is in the crawlspace under your house). It stays at the top of my tool box. I got one for christmas from one of my best friends several years ago. I gets much more use than my mag-lights.

I got one a few years ago for hiking, after having thought they were the stupidest gimmicks on earth... I had to eat my words after the first night I set up equipment in the dark.

They are available (especially neat idea) with dual bulb types, one is halogen which is brighter, and one is bright-white LED, which will burn for over a thousand hours on one set of batteries... very cool stuff.
