Opening PDF files .... problem solved!

Post by Jon Light (deceased) »

I've been here before and I've solved the problem before but I can't remember how.

Something has changed suddenly and now if I click on a pdf file online, instead of opening in a window or a tab, it opens a download dialog box in order to choose a location to save the file.
How can I revert to the old behavior of clicking on it and having the file open in a window?
It just started doing this with Foxit, I uninstalled Foxit and it is still doing it with Adobe reader.

Firefox browser on win 7 machine.

I had the same thing happen when I switched from Adobe Reader to Foxit Reader. The solution is to force a PDF download box and look at the options. On mine, there was Save as and Open With. Browser to "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox" > "Firefox.exe" and click Apply. From then on, PDF files opened in your Firefox browser.

Note: I posted this at work, from memory. I will verify it at home and either confirm or correct my information.

Thanks Wiz. I wasn't getting to the PDF download box you describe BUT----problem solved.

In Firefox menu,

TOOLS > OPTIONS > APPLICATIONS

I kept missing "Portable Document Format" (pdf). I just had to set the option from 'download' to 'open with Adobe reader'.

Eazy peazy.
