When did Emmons stop making P/P's

Post by Nick Reed »

Does anyone know the last regular production dates for Emmons P/P's. I think it may have been sometime in 1985 then I think the (6) silver anniversary P/P's were made in 1989. If anyone knows exactly. . . . .what were they?

As far as I know, the SA Emmons that were made were 5 D-10's & 1 S-10.

That '72 Emmons that Bobby Seymour has for sale is exactly like mine. All I can say is, if it sounds as nice as mine, it's one heck of a guitar. I been offered an even trade for a black '66 wrap around, but I think mine sounds better and so does the guy that owns the '66. If you want the true Emmons full bodied sound, then this is the guitar that will give it to you........Carson

Carson-I believe that the wraparound changer models date from late '64 and '65-All or most '66 models are the bolt-on The subtle difference between the changers and necks can mean a big difference especially in price-many players here lay claim to owning fine guitars form the bolt-on period around 1966-far fewer have wraparounds-In comparison of the two types-I prefer my 1965 model over my 1966(which is still a wonderful horn)
[This message was edited by PAUL WARNIK on 26 August 2003 at 05:20 AM.]

I had an '84 black D-10 P/P I bought from Paul Crawford of Orlando FL and I think it was built toward the end of production run that occured in '85 sometime according to what I could find out. It had the new pedals that are on the all pull models.

I am adjusting out a 1986 push pull D10 serial number 6607 which has Sperzel keys for a guy in Kansas. It is a very clean great sounding guitar. Of course it's black. Image

From what I've heard, they quit making P/P's as their regular production guitar in '81, when they started making LeGrandes. They continued, however, to make P/P's on a "special order" basis up until '89 for customers that preferred a P/P. The highest (unconfirmed) serial number I have heard of for a P/P that was built in '89 was 6687.

Donny,
My serial# is 6743. I was hoping this thread would get to serial nos., since the Carter chart stops at 1981. What year would my guitar be???

Probably 1989, Stephen. You must have one of the last ones they made...I don't think you'll find many serial numbers higher than that. I had suspected that the serial number I mentioned (6687) was built earlier than 89, and your's would kinda confirm that.

What about it, guys...who does have the highest serial number? We'd all like to know who has the last p/p they built!
