Changing/cleaning Stainless strings

Post by Nicholas Dedring »

I was wondering how often folks who play stainless strings change them (what's the tip-off that it's time?)

Also, since I always have my forearm across them, the strings on the C6 are getting this buildup on them, they feel caked up when you feel the undersides... what's the best way to clean them off, and more importantly, how should I keep it from happening? throw a towel over it or something??

Yes on the towel/cloth.
For the built up stuff, go to a music store (try Musician's General Store on Court St.) and get a Blitz cloth (in the violin section). That should remove string crap. I'm too new with the SS thing to have an answer on lifespan.
