my new ''willy''

Post by Gary Preston »

yes after 25 years of playing my sho-bud i broke down and bought a lighter steel ! o theres nothing wrong with my ''bud'' but he seems to be a little heavier these days and the new ''willy'' is a lot lighter ,to say the least ( could it be that i'm getting older ? )no,no,no, could'nt be !! i must brag a little on mr. rudolph at the williams guitar co, he builds a great looking and sounding steel, i wish i knew how to show a picture of my ''axe'' but i dont !! maybe later . thanks ,G.P.

Congratulations!
If my Bud would get to heavy for me, I would also buy a Williams.

Gary, tells us about your new "Willy" if you can't show pics. Did you get the new cross-over style, color, pedals, and all the bells and whistles?

Gary:

There should be some pictures of several Willys in the June/July issue of PedalSteel.US Perhaps yours (at some stage of construction) will be one of them. The pictures were taken in Bill Rudolph's shop.

My Sho-Bud S-10 got too heavey and I got a S-12-U keyless Willy. It is Burgundy Lacquer with 8&5 with the 400 series changer, a breeze to change strings on and light and sounds great. A little better looking and sounding than GP's sissy blue lacquer. Plus I don't have to carry GP's Willy, Mine is lighter.HA

HI,RICHARD, thanks for your reply, this is my first ''WILLY'' and i like it very much
my first steel was a M.S.A. and my second was a ''SHO-BUD'' pro-2 , and i will keep it and my''WILLY'' until i get to old to carry a volume pedal !! i like both of them very much, but i dont need a ''dbl.'' neck for what i'm doing . i play for a southern gospel group and it makes more sense to have a steel thats lighter!! (LARRY COLE WILL SAY I'M TO OLD ALREADY ) but what does he know ?? my new ''WILLY'' is a Lloyd green model with (4) floor pedals and (5) knee levers. it's windsor blue with a hint of green. again thanks for your reply. Well to be honest Gary, it is prettier than you are. heheeeeeeeeeee. He thought I was going to I was prettier than mine. My camera hasn't worked right since I took your picture at the show.

Yep I did enjoy the show too, but I couldn't sit on the front row for the whole thing, I had to play guitar a couple of sets.

What a chuckle.
In NZ "willie" refers to the male organ.
