How to tune?

Post by Chandler Holt »

This post is related to the "Emmons tempered Tuning" post.
I am interested in finding some type of tuning guide. Something that will address tuning the pedal & lever changes is mainly my concern. I know how to do the basics.

Does this include knowing how to tune to a chart like Jeff Newman's? If so, that's what I'd start with if I were you. Tune all open strings first to the offsets shown in the chart, then tune one pedal at a time, checking the open (nonpedaled) note often, then the levers.

Once you're comfortable tuning that way and can hear when you're in or out of tune, you can start experimenting with other ways -- like tuning by ear or inventing a personal chart that you like better.
