Farewell Party by ZK

Post by Zane King »

Okay before you listen to "my version" of Farewell Party let me make a disclaimer. I completely realize this tune has been do a gazillion times and trillion ways. I took a little creative expression freedom on this as I do most tunes I play. If I were singing the words I would do the same thing. So please open your mind and ears (LOL) to likely a new interpretation of an old classic.

Also, let me take this chance to brag on my new Classic Vibe Amplifier. All Tube. This thing is daily revolutionizing my playing. I am hearing things from my guitar that I've never heard before. :D Compare this to some of my older videos on this type tune. I have always used Peavey up til now. Oh and all I did to the processing of this was simply put a microphone on the amp. That is the verb on the amp you hear.

Sounds like you found some new notes! That's part of the fun of playing one of those old standards. Trying to keep it fresh, and still familiar. Good job!

There is no standard way to play a tune to me. I think as long as the melody is there then that'll work. Zane, your melody is right on the money and the song was very refreshing with great new ideas. Great job

Amp?

Post by Rex Thomas »

Hey Zane, at the risk of the "same topic, multi thread" police (& I'm definitely not speaking of b0b or Joey) showing up carrying on about an amp discussion under "Steel Players", could you elaborate on the "Classic Vibe" amp a little on this thread? I'd like to learn more about it. Couldn't find any info on the web. Yes, sounds great, I'm interested, what say ye?

Zane,

I enjoyed your version, you are such a great player. Any way you can bottle some of that talent up and send it to me?

Beautiful, Zane. Did all that sustain come just from the settings on the amp?

Very nice--smooth and sweet. It has the feel of the Watson/Green recording without being a slave to it. Tubes, you say? I think I've heard of them!

Zane, I don't know what "melodic purist" would scoff at that, but, if there is one, they need to have my #10's shoved into their backside....LOL

Thanks a ton for listening folks.

LA Wunder - I think the sustain is a combination of things for sure but this amplifier has clearly enhanced my sound. It's a necessary component of my sound now. Where as in the past, I just plugged the "P" amp of whatever and trusted it was the best I could do.

Gary D - love your comment. THANK YOU!

Dustin - Exactly! Thanks for the offer too I might could use that in the future. :D :D

Kevin - I think the correct answer is zero since "gazillion" is a fictitious number. 8)

"Time Is Tight" by Booker T and the MGs, because it's just a nice tune.

"Cliffs of Dover" by Eric Johnson, because... well, just because.

I enjoy your music and am fascinated by your tuning. Curious how will deal with a rock tune.

Wow Rich I don't think I have heard those. Gonna have to do some digging on that. I appreciate the suggestions and I'm open to more. I'm gonna be recording a bunch of new tunes soon.

Good suggestion John. And Wally, I don't think I have ever considered that and yet you know how many times I have played it and heard it. :)
