Juzzie Smith street musician - VIDEO

Post by Steve Green »

Has anyone ever heard of this guy? He's got a few videos on you tube.

He plays lap steel, harmonica, and some type of foot operated drum thingies at the same time. Pretty cool.

I watched quite a few videos on other sites of him and he seems to use the same sound and chord progression (variations of "Green Onions") on most of his songs. But, for some reason they don't get old or monotonous and me and my wife both found ourselves shaking our booty on almost all of his stuff. I can see where he might be able to become semi-wealthy from this genre choice. I love his harmonica playing along with the syncopated footwork on the train song.

Upon closer look, I think his left foot is on a bass drum pedal, which is turned backwards to strike the box he's sitting on. His right foot appears to be on a tambourine. I guess the 2 Micro-Cube amps are for his lap steel and his vocal / harmonica mic. He even pulls out an egg-shaker maraca about mid way through.

Yep, that's Juzzie, he's pretty popular around these parts. Plays a lot instruments. Yes he plays with a reversed bass drum pedal. Very earthy music and he also can play a mean didgeridoo (also while playing those others.) I enjoy him live more than CD.
