Walking After Midnight C6th

Post by Wayne D. Clark »

The Song "Walking After Midnight" In C6th, I notice that ever time I see it played on "You Tube" It is listed as [C6th High G]. So am I to understand that it cannot be played in C6th with E as the first String. In other words that first String "G" is such an integral part of the song that you might say With out the [High "G" C6th tuning]. You are unable to properly play the song. Right.

Nope. On page 101 of Doug Beaumier's book "25 more songs for lap steel guitar" there is an arrangement of Walkin' After Midnight for a 6-string lap steel tuned low to high: CEGACE. So, "Walking After Midnight" without the high G.

Both of Doug's lap steel books are great. I'm learning so much working my way through them.

Thanks Wayne and Liz. I just replied to your email, Wayne. You don't need a high G string to play the song (the melody of the song). In the video I played an 8-string lap steel with high G, but I use the G mostly to play the solos, the improv sections. The arrangement in my 25 MORE book is basically the same melody as the 8-string version. There is also a solo in the book, and it's a little easier than the video solo(s). Thanks for asking!
