Zoom MS-50G settings...

Post by Dick Sexton »

Does anyone have usable Dobro settings for the Zoom MS-50G? I have a couple places I could use them. Thanks.

Larry, how does it compare with the Boss GE-7 in comb settings? I was hoping Zoom would put out a sim of the GE-7.

Question?

Post by Dick Sexton »

Is the patch/effect "Comb Filer" one that has to be down loaded? Could not find it.

Everybody keep in mind with the Zoom you can program an effect - duplicate it - and run it in series three or four times in row - which thickens up the sound. I do this with pitch/delay/reverb. I'm going to try this with Larry's Dobro settings.

Dick this may in fact be a downloadable effect. When you go there you get like 45 or so more effects in just a couple of minutes.

My post was just a starting point.

There is also a graphic EQ just like the GE7 and yes you can put it into a patch more than one time.

I put two EQ's in my main patch, so I can cover more freq's.

Thanks all, I think I will do that using the 7Band EQ or multi's... Working so good I hate to take a chance on loosing anything. Old eyes, old brain and not so nimble fingers here. Lol!

The most important setting, IMO, is the one that turns of the auto-save. As shipped, you get your setup, save it to a memory slot, then you tweak it, or worse, hit a wrong button and replace a component in the chain... and guess what? Your saved settings are lost (well, replaced with the new ones)! The manual, on page 20, tells you how to turn that feature off (and refer to page 18 if you need to know how to get into the "settings" menu page to get started). Once I get settings I like, I like to save them, then play around and see if I can improve it. I want to do that without losing my saved settings.

Anyone else have any other settings, such as Phase + Rotary Speaker, etc? Inquiring minds want to know (mainly because we are LAZY!)

I did a phase and a rotary speaker programs. I'm not impressed with either, so I won't post them.

Actually, the more I get into this unit the less I'm impressed overall. I bought it as a backup to my POD X3 as it has been flakey. But, its nowhere close to my POD X3 for what I use it for (effects only, no amp sims).

Got mine today, did the above mentioned Dobro settings into a patch. Have a spring reverb in a patch for normal steel playing. Also working on a "organ" patch with a phaser and rotary speaker (Phaser and Rt Closet"). Going to try it out tonight.

Here's an additional Dobro setup...

GraphicEQ

160 = -6
400 = -12
800 = +12
3.2k = +12
6.4k = -12
12k = -12

Aco Sim
Top 25
Body 50

I should note, the Nashville 112 settings are the ones in the Peavey manual, no reverb, and my hookup chain is this:

Guitar - L'il Izzy - Amp High Gain Input - Amp Pre Send - Volume Pedal - Zoom MS-50G Input - Zoom MS-50G Output - Amp Pre Return

This is the chain for all the effects listed here.

Here are my latest settings... The MS-50G can be a very versatile tool for exploration.

I love it. Great analog delays, pitch detune, amp sims.

Where do you find the comb filter?

It's labeled as "CombFLTR" in the pedal. It is between "Exciter" and "Resonance". The icon looks like this:

Thanks, can't wait to try it. What do you like better, the EQ version or the comb filter version?

The "Dobro" has a darker flavor, the "Dobro2" is brighter.

Using strings 5,6 & 8, most people can't tell you aren't playing a dobro.

As for the "Bagpipes", the only time I use it is on Amazing Grace, and I used string 8 as a drone string, i.e. it gets played with all other notes.

The "Organ" sound is close to a B3 type organ, and I leave the "Roto Closet" mode setting active, so I can flick it from slow to fast. It does get a little "fat" when playing a three string chord, but with two strings, sound pretty good.

I run my set up through a Behringer mixer, into a single powered Harbinger V2112 speaker. The other day, I put headphones on and tried the Organ... now it's got me wanting another speaker for a "stereo steel" setup. That Roto Closet sounds awesome in stereo!

I run both the L & R outputs on the MS-50G into a stereo channel on the board.
