Anyone using a Mesa Boogie Mark 1 ?

Post by Marty Broussard »

Anyone using that amp for pedal steel? It seems very flexible(60 or 100 watts selectable), and fairly compact.....thanks for your feedback.

Hey Marty:

I use a Mesa Transatlantic 5/15/25 watt with a 12 inch Tone Tubby speaker in a small Mesa slanted cab. I use the 15 watt setting for lap steel but the 25 watt setting is clean and loud. I have not played pedal steel through the amp.
Mesa makes good amps. Played a simul/Class years ago with six string guitar.

Thanks Len!! I love my NV112 and I'm trying to find a tube amp similar to it that would be good for PSG....even if I have to have a Tech Mod it. The Mark one seems like a good candidate.

I have the money and I'm having fun.......,I hope I can find the tube equivalent (or close) to the performance of the NV112.....

Also, I'm looking for someone to build a NV112 With totally hi quality components.

Still playing through a Mark III I bought new in 1988.
Open back combo "Simulclass" switches between 75 & 15 watts.
Combo has Celestion 90 & thiel extension cab has EV

These amps have so many great tones and sound great with PSG.

I tried out my '87 Mark III once or twice at home. It worked in that I could plug in and get sound, but it wasn't very good sound. My ears like my Session 500,my back prefers my NV112

I had a Mark IIB that I really regret selling. I was working for Mesa at the time, and got to build my own amp. I can still hear that sound in my head. It was great.

I think a Boogie Mark I with a proper high-headroom speaker sounds great for pedal steel. They actually made a handful with one 15" speaker, they're breathtaking if you can find one. I had a chance to try one, but he wasn't selling.

They reissued them around 10 years ago. The two 12" speaker versions I tried sounded great, but I tried to get one made with a 15" - my buddy was a Mesa dealer - but they wouldn't do it. C'est la vie.

I built a few Mark IIB combo amps in the wide chassis with a 15" EVM speaker. They had six 6L6 power tubes and put out about 150 watts! Great sounding amps, very loud and clean.

I took them to the ISGC in 1983. People were mildly interested, but there were no buyers. Everyone was into the solid state Peavey and Webb amps at the time.
