Software suggestions for recording software

Post by Rich Santucci »

Just wondering what everyone is using for home recording on their PC's. I'm looking for a package, either freeware or to purchase. Don't need anything real fancy like ProTools just the basics and possibly more. Thanks, Rich

Audacity. But be careful when downloading, I see reports that there is other software/toolbars now included in the downloads and you need to check carefully and opt out of any of the crap. Previously, that wasn't the case.

Reaper. It's almost free and it can used in a very basic manner or, later on, in a more advanced way with additional plug-ins, autoamtion, output format conversions, etc.

Hey Greg-
I just learned there is network support for processing plug ins- have you used that function?
"ReaMote"?

Another plus on Reaper. If you decide to purchase, it is cheep, but you can play with it for free. Also, there is a forum that is PACKED with info....

I have used it for years, and get a "free" update every now and then. I find it pretty easy to use, and have a few plug ins also. Multi effects, etc.........

Jay, I have the original $40 Reaper with one paid update to it. I've added one reverb plug in and run it with EZDrummer and EZKeys VST's. There's a lot of support available but I've never needed it or used ReaMote.

As on any topic...you'll get lots of answers.

I have bought, and use or have used, Logic, Cubase, Studio One, Reaper, and Cool Edit (now Adobe Audition).

I happen to use Cubase in my studio most regularly. However, if I were starting fresh and looking to get the most bang-for-the-buck, I would pick Reaper. Astonishing feature set for a very reasonable price.

Cheers,
Mike

Been using Logic since its Emagic (pre-Apple) days.
