Seeing the letter M on the pedals, I'm wondering whether it's a McVay steel

I just looked up pics of a Mcvay and it's similar to it. Thanks for the help, what would this steel be valued at?

After actually playing it and determining that everything worked properly, I'd say the asking price is reasonable. I wouldn't touch it, sight unseen.

Didn't say that at all. Even more than the average, well-known brand, this less-than-familiar guitar needs to be checked out up close and personal. Then, if it plays well, it is not (IMO) overpriced.

Ok sorry about that and it's in Orlando so I'll definitely check it out if my fender sells.

Definitely a mcvay. I would guess its a later model as Charlie quit building doubles in the mid 90's. you could consult Charlie Jr he has a store in mars pa and is well known for the string bender. They are pretty decent guitars IMHO. I own the last double he built

Post by Charlie McVay »

To whom this may concern, this is absolutely not a McVay Steel Guitar. I hope this info will help.
Thanks, Charlie McVay

If there is an R underneath the M on the pedals then they would b Market Rite. I just spent a lot of effort identifying a single neck they made. The name changed to Cougar at some point. I think the owners name was Cowgar or something similar. The original Market Rites were an economy single neck offered as a kit or assembled in the 70s. Basically beginners guitars 2/1 or 3/1 setup, similar to a Sho Bud Maverick. I just bought one of them at a yard sale price with a few accessories. From what I've heard, the Cougars were a much better line, and not kit built. I think there is a clip on YouTube of one. If I can find it I will post a link.

Couldn't find the video. Here is a link to a cougar on elderly that shows the pedals though. http://www.elderly.com/items/185U-198.htm earlier fret boards had the white diamond markers. Looking at the undercarriage though it doesn't look like any cougar photos I've come across. Could very well be a cross breed project I guess.
