How do I make certain measures totally silent ?

I am working with a version of Slowly and would like to make the first few measures silent while I play the intro and then have the biab come in while I start the song. I think I have seen that question posed on here, but I cant find the thread. Any help would be much appreciated, and I hope I have made myself clear as to what I am trying to do.

Larry,

Put a period after the chord. "C." and that will keep everything silent on that bar.
