I've been very happy with my Zoom H2. Got mine for under $100, new on C-list...

I'll 'second' that preference for the H2.
I've had mine since they first came out.
Records in .wav or a number of different
.mp3 compression rates. Different micing
options. Very durable, especially with the
optional silicon sleeve.
Fwiw,

I've been very pleased with the Tascam DR-05 I've owned for about a year. cost around $89.

Before that I had an Edirol R-09. Five years ago that cost $350, and I was very happy with it.

The Tascam is better, I especially like the "Peak Limit" setting which the older unit did not have.

Thanks to all for replying. I didn't know about the Zoom recorders. Yesterday - I ordered the Zoom H2N from Sweetwater. More than I wanted to spend but: "It's only money - it'll go away." Bob Hoffnar - thanks for the generous offer.

Robert, you gotta get out more ! The H2 , I believe, has become a go to standard in this price range...Been using one for every gig and rehearsal for a few years now...
Emmons L-II , Fender Telecasters, B-Benders , Eastman Mandolin ,
Pro Tools 12 on WIN 7 !

Super buy Jim...I think you'll be impressed. I've had my H2 for about three years now and it's a dandy IMHO. Carl

Another vote for Zoom H2 -

its able to be used live with its built in mics -

or via its 'Line In' capabilities, patched into Main PA Board

I changed my mind about selling it because the batteries leaked inside it while in storage so it no longer works.
