Are there current recording software compatible with older b

Post by Lane Gray »

My fiancée got me an interface (MAudio) that of course came with software, but it appears that everyone in the software business has decided to enforce throwing great big gobs of money at Mickeyslop.
As my XP box works fine, I see little (actually none whatsoever) reason to "upgrade."
Does anybody sell packages that are compatible with XP anymore?

More amps than guitars, and not many effects

Older versions of ProTools, that comes with some MAudio interface units work with XP. I have a later ProTools MP9 and it even works with XP.

What exactly do you have? Both recording software (and version) and MAudio device.

BTW, Microsoft end of support for Win XP ends April 2014.

I'll check when I get home. I didn't even try to load the ProTools in the box; it said it wouldn't even load on anything older than 7.

It won't cost anything to try Reaper, buy it if you like it. I think it's only 69.00, quite a bargain. It's pretty full-featured, too. Audacity is free, it's simpler, but works well too. I'd say try those two first.

DAW software

Post by Dale Kath »

Lane, if you have any way at all to get an older version of Adobe Audition 3, get it. The interface is extremely user friendly, better that Avid, ProTools even Adobe Audition 5. It would work perfectly on XP. Adobe has adopted a subscription format now, and it is hard to believe they have not promoted and advanced this DAW. Audition 3 is discontinued, no support, no help, but it is the BEST DAW IMHO.
