I'm not sure what the dimensions of your guitar are, but my home made 8 string fits really nicely in one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Uncle-Mikes-Law-E ... B0017KWXM0

gig bag
Thanks for the link John. That would work, and there are compartments for my amunition too. ha There may be Uke cases that would work too, but they don't give any dimentions of the various Ukes. My Rickenbacher is 29 1/2 by 9 1/2. I'll check my local music store too.

gig bag
Hi Andy, Well, a hard shell case would be ideal, but hard to find. I don't often take the Rick out as I play pedal steel most of the time, and then only occasionaly at our Church. Evan a gig bag would be an improvement over my 70 year old "cardboard" case with no handle. I have two B6 Ricks and yes, they are Bakelite. Both cases are shot.

A Ric Bakelite is possibly the only steel I'd recommend needs to have a hard case - they are just to venerable to neck breakage at the body joint. There are a few case mfg making these - I think in the $150 range but I haven't checked prices lately.
I bet you could find a nice plastic gun case to fit it for less - but these days walking around with those is dangerous.

Hey, George, I recently got a B6 and it fits perfectly in the Taylor Bags, which I stock. I'm using one for my Rick as the original case is a bit shaky. They're very well padded and well made. Maybe an extra 6" room at the headstock end, great fit for width and where the padding is.

I just picked up a Rickenbacker B6 myself, unfortunately with no case. I am using a TKL model 4629 gig bag for now. They're available pretty widely, but Morrell Music seems to have a low price. Also available through Amazon.com.
It fits well in the width, but is a bit long in the length. I don't think it offers enough protection for anything other than carrying to/from a gig - it would be relatively easy to bump this hard enough to damage the guitar. Extra towels or clothing help act as padding.

I bought the 35" version of this bag for my Sierra Laptop, but also use it for my Rickenbachers. It's perfect - exceptional protection, snug fit and rugged construction. The two side compartments have room enough for cables, music, picks and bars and a couple of pedals. I've taken it on plane trips and regularly use it for gigs. Even a guitar as delicate as a bakelite could absorb a significant impact without any chance of damage. I've looked for years, but this is the only truly satisfactory bag I've found for lap steel.

Good question, Mark! If you shop around I think you can find these bags considerably cheaper. I just posted the Optics Planet link because it was in my email cache.
The best thing about the Bulldog is that, unlike many of the other bags people have suggested, it's constructed of high-density foam. That, combined with the snug fit, gives much better protection that most.

Ian, I just looked at their web site and they want $142.07 to ship to BC Canada. They also had no idea why the shorter bags were more than the longer ones.
