OPERATION RUSSLESS CONTEST- 3rd Quarter Winner

Post by Laney Hicks »

With apologies for the delayed announcement, I would like to congratulate the 3rd. Quarter Winner of my Operation Russless Contest:

3rd. quarter - MARK WAYNE !!!!!!!!!!!!

------------------------------------

And, as a reminder,

2nd. quarter - CONNIE BURTON
1ST. quarter - JEREMY DRAWBAUGH

We have only one quarter winner left to choose on August 1, 2006, and then, I will have the most difficult task of selecting a Grand Winner from the 4 quarter winners. He or she will meet us in St. Louis to attend the Convention as our guest and perform their winning "rendition" with me on (who's else, but) RUSS' set! Image

This Contest has sparked a lot of fun within the Steel Community and it has also resulted in a piece of "history" forever captured on a CD entitled, "Operation Russless" that we are really proud of, which features many of the greatest players of our time. Not only will we have this special "St. Louis Convention Collector's Copy" available at our booth, but we have a very special "Operation Russless" set planned just after the Dinner Break on Saturday at the Convention...and just when you think it can't get any better...well, just don't miss this "set" if you really love STEEL GUITAR at its best. Thanks everyone, and please, keep sending in your tapes! I'm enjoying and appreciating all the different styles and talents!

Dale Thomas from Iowa just let me know about this, and it's very flattering to be one of the four! Thank you Laney.

Ben, consider yourself lucky; Russ has told quite a few people they could be "winners", and he "did" tell them where to send the check! Image

Gosh... Time is waisting, I better get to practicing and recording. I just recieved my copy of Matters Of The Heart "You do the Steel" CD two weeks ago. I'm always running a little behind but I hope to put my best on a track and get it sent in soon. What a great thing this is turning out to be.

Oh, my goodness, I should have been reading sooner so that I could correct any misconceptions that these winners are being picked by RUSS! No, no, no! This is all "Russless"! His role is to prepare the tapes and cds for "me" so that when I listen I'm not aware of the identity of the contestant. He may have an OPINION, like the varied "comments" he made while the Operation Russless Pranksters tapes were filing in. Image I may be sharing some of his more "classic" statements on our upcoming set in St. Louis. But, I pride myself in knowing what I like in steel guitar sounds, and Mr. Hicks wants no part of this responsibilty. He says he's already suffered enough consequences for his minimal involvement! Image

Randy Beavers...speaking of Russ thinking the waters are safe...I repeat myself, watch your back. Image

Come on ya'll, don't be shy! This is hopefully a really good opportunity for one of you to "shine" and enjoy that special "high anxiety rush" that the "masters" get just before going on stage at Scotty's Convention in St. Louis!
Send in your tapes while there's still time!
I'll be naming the 4th Quarter Winner on August 1.

Thanks, everyone.

SORRY LANEY I GUESS I MISUNDERSTOOD IN THE BEGINNING. I WOULD CONSIDER YOU THE FIRST LADY OF STEEL GUITAR, AND CERTAINLY AN EXPERT IN GOOD STEEL PLAYING. Image

LANEY'S RIGHT! WHAT A GREAT HONOR IT WOULD BE TO PLAY THE MAIN STAGE IN ST. LOUIS!
AND IT IS A BLAST PRACTICING BEHIND SUCH A TALENTED SINGER.

No problem, Jeremy. I was pleased to have an opportunity to say a little more about the Contest and the fun I look forward to in St. Louis.

I don't know about that "first lady" business, but I'd bet there's no truer fan among non players. Image

Good luck,
Laney
