I saw that too,Daniel...reckon Doyle had had a couple?

I really enjoyed that show...Cal Smith is a favorite of mine, and it is sad that very little of his music ever made it to CD...he is a great guy too!

LOL steve he might have.Yea I like Cal Smiths stuff especially the very early things he did right after leaving the texas Troubadors but all of his recordings were great and yes its sad most of it hasnt been released on cd so we didnt have to go track down all those records which I dont mind doing but I do wish his stuff was more availible.

You can add me to the list of Cal Smith fans. Backed him up several times (back in the day) and he was always a pleasure to work with and be around. :)

I didn't know Bill Anderson wrote "The Lord Knows I'm Drinking." #1 Billboard for Cal Smith in 1973:

Yes he did,Jerry...and Jerry Lee Lewis had it on a live album that I bought in about'70...but my favorite version is probably by CARL Smith...it's available on iTunes and has some absolutely sick phase shifted Grady Martin madness on the fade...I heard it on XM one night after waking up(about 3 am)and the next morning thought I had dreamt it...with nothing to lose I went to iTunes and there it was...check it out...the best $.99 you'll ever spend.

Like a lot of people,it took me years before I could tell who was playing on what...I remember when it dawned on me John was on that record...by then I had known him a long time and I could call him up and ask him that...he was a sweetheart...there won't be another one like him ever.
