I wonder if maybe Pig Robbins hasn't played on more hit records than anybody. Be hard pressed to find anyone who did.

Just a quick list - Pig was on "Behind Closed Doors" - "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue" - "White Lightnin'" - "Chug-a Lug" - "I Take It On Home." Pig is on the "Blonde on Blonde" tracks Dylan cut in Nashville. Charlie McCoy said - Before the number system came along - they would go to Pig if they were having trouble remembering the chords to a song. Pig could hear it once and have it down. Charlie also said if it was George Jones or Tex Nobody - it didn't matter. Pig puts in the same commitment to every artist. Gene Watson tells this story: When they were cutting "Fourteen Carat Mind" they were having trouble getting the intro. Finally Gene said: "Pig - you kick it off." The rest is history.

Robert I always thought that it was Charlie Rich himself playing the piano.
".....brown eyes blue" is really special!
I've heard that there's a funny story in the Al Kooper book about him driving a car around Nashville at night, with the guys (from Bonde On Blonde) giving him directions and they finally get stopped by the police.

Joachim - The story I heard was took a lunch break and Pig and another musician went off to a restaurant. After lunch - Pig decided he wanted to drive. So Pig got in the driver's seat while the musician crouched down under the dash and worked the steering wheel. The other musicians on the session were standing out by the alley in back of the studio as Pig drove past. Of course - they probably pulled this trick more than once.

Thanks Robert. This version of the story seems to be more realistic.

That's probably a good bet Jack. Pig had to be up there though.
