Not long after I got this cheap Asian lap steel, it fell off a flatbed on an outdoor gig, scarred and banged up.

So when I ran into a guy in a trenchcoat out behind the 7-11, I didn't feel too bad about trading for this oddly similar looking 1888 Lighthouse #46 steam-powered oddity. Plays as well as the old one, even if I have to get the boiler started 2 hours before the gig. Starts a lot more conversations, though!

Hi Mark It look's like a steel Salvador Dali would have played. Cool.

I don't know if you remember me but I brought a doulble neck Sho~Bud over to your house about 8-9 years ago and you set up the E9 neck and serviced the guitar for me. I never could learn pedal steel but I'm doing better with lap steel. Just wanted to say hi.

What material did you use for the copper colored scrollwork? How did you shape and apply it?
That looks awesome and would dress up any steel!

Hey, Dom, the scrollwork is actually soft plastic stickers from the bargain bin at JoAnn Fabric, painted. I thought it was cool too. Especially for $0.99!
