Steinar Schröder's Buckaroo Band

Post by Johan Jansen »

I just returned from a Scandinavian festival where I shared the stage with The Buck Owens Tribute Band with Steinar Schröder. It was a great band, great music and very nice suits! Steinar is a very nice person, we had breakfast together and talked steelguitar. Whenever you get the chance to meet Steinar and his band, go out and visit them!
regards, Johan

Johan, I agree. The band sounds closer to Buck Owens and his Buckaroos than any other band I have heard.
Steinar, who has studied Tom Brumley like no other player, certainly pays a huge tribute to his friend and mentor every time he plays. Like you say, Steinar is also a great person and a fine steel player.

I have had the pleasure of visiting Norway and working with these guys. Wille Cantu was there also and played. It was a blast. They do Buck proud and right down to the comedy routines that Buck used to do onstage. Steinar is not only a wonderful steel player, but also a dear friend AND he plays a ZB guitar!!!!

Thanks to you all for the kind and certainly - for me - undeserved praise. All of you guys could play circles around me any day,but I appreciate your gracious words of encouragement.
I had the pleasure of meeting Johan Jansen at a Danish festival, where he backed up a U.S. artist. Great player who`s even doing a Master`s in mathematics right now! We had an enjoyable breakfast together, where Johan gave me some very useful hints on right hand technique, - my weak point. To my surprise, Johan has a right hand very reminiscent of Tom Brumley, even to the point of using straight picks, - just like Tom did during his Buckaroo days. Tom felt this contributed to his fast, but precise attack, and hearing Johan, I can see his point, because that description fits JJ playing as well.
Johan also told me that there will be a very special JJ model steel guitar coming out, but I`ll leave the details for him to tell.
Billy and Greg, - you two are dear friends who have initiated me into the wonderful world of ZB guitars, and I`m forever grateful for getting to know you and for having the honor of benefiting from your steel guitar expertise.
Bent, we have talked on the phone, and I just hope that we can meet one day. Would love to try out one of your guitars!
To all who commented on our Buck Owens tribute band, - in as far you like what you hear, I take it as a compliment to the ever lasting quality of what Buck, Tom, Don, Doyle, and Willie did. And hopefully that very quality of their music will outweigh most of my sloppy attempts at playing steel.
Thanks again.

As soon as the guitar is ready, I hope end of this year, I will introduce it and talk about all the details, after all the fine-tuning... :)

Steinar, You are much too modest. Not only your fine playing but also the ZB is a testimony to the Buck/Brumley sound. I would like nothing more than have you try out the BenRom. Who knows, maybe it will happen in the near future. As we speak, I am working on another Blackbird that is bound for Lofoten. Who knows, maybe you and he can get together and jam.
