How the hell can this have happened, did this guitar survive a major crash that left everything in pieces, except for his LP? Is this the wow factor of the year?

My guess is that the guitar was taken by some of the rescuers when they got to the crash site.It is not a plesant thing to talk about, but it happens often at wrecks, fires, etc. The emergency people sometimes help themselves to the belongings of accident victims.

Happy ending, but disturbing that apparently no effort was made to search out the owners of the surviving equipment. Wonder what else was scavenged?

I remember Frampton from Humble Pie and his own band....haven't kept up much for a few decades though.

I saw the Pie with Peter and that guitar, in Sacramento. Man, they rocked the house so hard, w/3 encores, I floated out the doors afterwards, and nobody shared a damn thing with clean little me! Stupid Sacramento...
