My guess is that the guitar was taken by some of the rescuers when they got to the crash site.It is not a plesant thing to talk about, but it happens often at wrecks, fires, etc. The emergency people sometimes help themselves to the belongings of accident victims.

I saw the Pie with Peter and that guitar, in Sacramento. Man, they rocked the house so hard, w/3 encores, I floated out the doors afterwards, and nobody shared a damn thing with clean little me! Stupid Sacramento...
