Connie Smith Artist in Residence Country Music Hall of Fame

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is honoring Connie Smith as their 2011 Artist in Residence. Connie will preside over three evenings of music in the Hall of Fame’s Ford Theater – August 22, 29, and September 12. Each evening will follow a different theme and feature special guests highlighting Connie’s long career of hits.

Although the guests for the Artists in Residence are always a surprise and never announced in advance, I have just heard the August 22nd show is secretly titled “Connie and the Steel Guitar” and will feature Weldon Myrick, Robbie Turner and Connie’s present day steel player – Gary Carter.

As we all know, Connie is a friend to the steel guitar. Beginning with Weldon she has always hired top steel players on her band and her recordings are almost as well known for their steel parts as for her great singing and choice of songs and songwriters. Connie’s band “The Sundowners” with Gary, Rod Ham – bass, Rick Wright – guitar, Rick McClure – drums will be the house band for each show.

Former Artist in Residence honorees have been Cowboy Jack Clement, Earl Scruggs, Tom T. Hall, Guy Clark, Kris Kristofferson, Jerry Douglas, Vince Gill and Buddy Miller.

Great news!!! I happen to be going to Nashville on the 21st. Will definitely be buying advance tickets! :D

Just reminding everybody of Connie Smith's "Artist in Residence" show at the Ford Theatre in the Country Music Hall of Fame 7 PM Monday. The Ford Theatre is a great sounding 315 seat room - optimum conditions to hear Connie Smith in concert with steel players Weldon Myrick, Gary Carter and Robbie Turner. Connie's band "The Sundowners," one of the best bands working today, will be the house band.

The theme of this show will be the pedal steel guitar and Connie will share her insights into the pedal steel and the essential part our instrument played in her music and in Country Music overall.
