black finger compressor vs orange squeezer

Post by Scott Appleton »

I have been watching the orange squeezer post from Ken
and wanted to add my secret weapon of choice to the "compressor" line. The E H Black finger .. all tube
2 12ax7's special power supply ... does not color the signal and can be switched from squash to studio transparent .. i use it for steel or tele .. it takes the signal straight from the guitar without distortion.
Very transparent but wakes up the dynamics. you hardly know its in the circuit path.. large footprint however and to that the OS has it covered .. blackfinger

I like the Barber Tone Press but don't use a compressor on steel.
It has a blend knob for 2 parallel channels.
Does not change the sound up to max compression.
MSA 12 String E9th/B6th Universal.
Little Walter PF-89.
Bunch of stomp boxes

That looks and sounds very impressive. There are some nice demo videos on YouTube for it, Scott.

I still like the old sleeper, the DOD FX80B. It's one of the old DOD pedals that takes a 1/8" 9V power jack. They were made with all the good components you'd pay someone $75 to "fix" an MXR or Boss with. You used to be able to pick them up for $25 on the 'bay, but people are getting hip to the old DODs now - made by cheerful Mormon children in long dresses & weird hair.... it's the quietest comp out there, Ross and Keeley vie for 2nd place. Using a Hilton VP now, I rarely use it on steel, but if I need to attenuate the Alumitone's signal for more electronic adventures, it'll slide in there somewhere.
