Yesterday's music is now children's music

Post by Sherman Willden »

The first time I ran into this is when I was an military instructor in 1981 or so. I was on CQ and a student brought out her guitar since I had mine. She liked it since I sounded like her father's playing. I started into "Puff the Magic Dragon" when she interupted me and said that she doesn't perform children's music. I thought it still was a major performance piece. So much for what I know. I was just watching a video where "Tennessee Birdwalk" was performed as a children's piece. I still like that song.

It is easy to play the steel guitar. Playing so that the audience finds it pleasing is the difficult act.

If you outranked her, you should have made her play it anyway!

It's funny how the feelings of listeners towards music change over the years. Maybe if you played the song fifteen years earlier, you would have been admired.:\

Their voices remind me of N.Sinatra and L. Hazelwood.

I hadn't been to the dirt track in 25 years. The stock cars that were the hottest thing on wheels in 1972 had become the cadets/hooligan class.
