Band on Carnival cruise ship dream

Post by Bill Paisley »

I just got back from a cruise on the Carnival Dream. A band called "Blackjack Band" was performing on it. The Steel Player was Jimmy Hodge. His wife Melanie Michaels was Lead singer and the drummer was Shane McCauley. Jimmy also played fiddle and lead guitar and sang. Jimmy use to play in Little Jimmy Dickins' band. They do a great job. Jimmy also played with the Ship's band in a production. Shane use to play in Connie Smith's band. Bill Paisley

Don't know the others but I'm pretty sure I worked with Shane McCauley around (1982) who's dad Joddie (sp) was a local D/FW steeler years ago.
Cops aren't paid much so I steel at night.

Jimmy and Mel are not only talented, they are gracious folks. I met Jimmy a couple years ago when the band i was with at the time played on the Carnival Conquest. This was just before Blackjack moved to the Dream. Jimmy came to 2 of our shows and was a big help dealing with logistics. He was great on anything he played.

I was on the same ship and enjoyed spending time with him. He is a great Steeler and Fiddler and a nice man. Catch his show in the big room if you can.

We were on DREAM first week in May, but there was no country band. Since 2 yr ago they have shrunk the band from 10 to 9 to 7 on this cruse. The jazz trio was first to go. They combine MIDI with the group to get a bigger sound. It's really a big disapointment; I contacted the head man responsible for live entertainment, but got no definitive answer; I told him we have attained VIP STATUS (14 cruises), but I got a diplomatic reply. I'm still in touch with Wendle Logan and his group is playing another gig on another cruise line.
