Power ballad: A song that makes a herd of people take their lighters out on cue ?
"Feel like going home" doesn`t qualify for the above but it is powerful !
But is it country ? :)
I think a power ballad usually is overblown and pompous which are qualities I don`t associate with country. The current AOR with a token steel on the otherhand.....;-)

Hey Paul -

Great song but that may be more of a "weeper."

Perhaps it is left up to the individual's choice as to what is considered as a country power ballad? Then my choice here would be this Johnny Paycheck number...with the great Hal Rugg laying down the power!

I am sure there are more, but this one came to mind.

To me, this is one of the ultimate country ballad performances. (You getting this Bama?)

I'm never sure of the meaning of the word,`Ballad`. I assume there's a story to be told. i.e. `The Ballad Of...such and such...?`

10-4, Bama, Colm, and Rick - and this one (also from an Opry show):

When you say 'power', 'ballad', and 'country music' in the same sentence, it's Johnny Paycheck that immediately comes to my mind.

I think your description ot the meaning of the word is accurate. I've listened to folk music before, and it meant mostly long, explicit stories of personal or historic happenings.
But since the word "Power" is added, it means something else, mostly slow numbers with instantly recognisable melodies, sung by a singer with a stong voice.
