Going to see the CRUSADERS tonight!

Post by Craig Stock »

Am heading into NYC tonight to see 3 of the four original Crusaders at the Blue Note. It's overpriced and usually short sets, but after being a hugh fan for almost 30 years and having never seen them with Wayne Henderson, I am looking forward to it. If only Dean Parks was playing with them :)

I'll give a short review after the show.
Regards, Craig

Thanks Mike, I do too. They have that great funky sound that I think most Jazz fans overlooked, some of their stuff would be great on Steel Guitar too.

I played Put It Where You Want It at the Dallas show, but it was little rough, as some of the guys got lost in the chart.

That is cool playing that in their home state, a Larry Carlton contribution. I know that Chuck Lettes is a fan of their, he may have some stuff tabbed out.

I did a festival gig Sunday and the soundman was playing some old Crusaders before our set. Reminded me how great they were.

That's good to hear Mark. I first heard them in Lubbock, Tx. when I worked at Texas Tech Radio station
KTXT, and another DJ was playing their album 'Free as the Wind' on his Jazz Night Show and I was instantly hooked, became a big Larry C. fan and have seen the Crusaders many times over the years. I still go back to those albums from the early to late seventies and they are timeless, all different but so much soul.

Joe Sample is such a great guy and I am really looking foreward to seeing Wayne Henderson for the first time. Joe's son is playing bass, and he is a real nice guy too, like his dad.

There is a box set out on their early years on the Mosaic label, I have to get it, they did so many records back in the late 50's and early 60's as the Jazz Crusaders which I have a lot on Album, but would like to get it on CD. Also some unreleased stuff on that box.

Thanks for the comments.
