Peavey Powerslide

Bought this guitar yesterday(Yes it is now available in the UK at LONG last!!). Took it along to our band practise last night.This guitar is absolutely awesome.Great when overdriven for rock slide in the horizontal standing position .Peavey have created a unique and potentially classic guitar here.Full marks to Mr.Peavey.

I got to play with one of them last year. Did a sit-in with a local group using the lead guitarist's Power Slide. Neat instrument. Had to resurrect my 6-string chops.

I'm glad it works for you; the Powerslide is an instrument with a lot of potential. I played one in a music store while shopping for lap steels, and I noticed that the frets were not in the right place. Some were good, some weren't, and it got worse as I moved up the neck. The twelfth fret was about a quarter inch flat of the harmonic!

Other than that, it sounded great. However, "that" was an insurmountable defect, and I bought a Recording King instead.

Jeremy, you are correct. Initially, the fret markers where not accurate on the guitar. John Richmond, the Peavey rep here in Nashville, has said that Peavey was aware of the problem and was in the process of correcting the fingerboard. Actually, I think they were going to move the position of the bridge slightly to correct the intonation. Besides that problem, yes I agree that this guitar sounds really good for rock slide playing.... Mike Daly

Hi I also find that the string/ body resonance is amazing and has a truly sweet musical acoustic tone and sustain which does get translated via the pup.Dave

The tone you can get from the Peavey is worth much more than the price tag. The straps are pretty much junk but once you accept it as a lap steel you'll appreciate it much more. To have a tone knob that blends from single coil to double coil is a great touch. I'm not sold on the abstract fretboard artwork though; it can be distracting when you're playing.

David Kurrasch with Sunny Sweeney plays one on 3 or 4 songs. Sounds great. I use to have one, and it was a pretty good guitar for the money. Didn't notice any major problems with it.

Your right about the straps..kind of funking ..but the price is right glad Peavey thinks of us sliders. love mine..

I've been having a lot of fun playing the Powerslide. The fretboard problem is easily fixed by moving the nut 1/4" closer to the bridge.

Like the previous posters, I was not able to use the strap, it was really uncomfortable. I just had Mark Roeder build a stand for mine, and it's great to be able to stand up and play. I put a couple of pictures of the stand on another thread:

They are certainly a bargain for the price. I can't remember the last time I've gotten so much mileage out of a $200 purchase!

I believe the Powerslide has a Basswood body.

What tuning are you guys using on these? Open E? Open G?

I'm assuming the tone everyone likes from these is best for rock?

I tune mine to open G dobro tuning. I use it for a variety of sounds, from a distorted, slide guitar sound, to a really clean, pretty tone. It covers both ends of the spectrum pretty well. Makes a pretty convincing dobro sound too, when played through a Dobro sim unit.
