Dobro With Fiber Nut.
I have a DoBro, have had for 30 years that has a {fiber] nut on it. I have not paid much attention to that factor, but this week it finally go to me. It seems to stick when tweeking the tuning and yeaterday the first string just seemed a [smig] flat, and for the life of me I could not bring it up. Does any one have that type of nut on their insterment. I hate to fool with it but I think maybe I should take it to a guitar store near by and see it they can replace the nut with a medal one. That may change the sound a bit, Presently it has a nice melow tone.

Square or round neck? Either way, I believe a bone nut is the preferred replacement. Metal may give your instrument a harsher sound than you're used to.
Any competent guitar repairman can slot a new one and replace it if it's a round neck.
If it's a square neck, I'd want to be sure he was familiar with the string spacing and height adjustment. I guess they could use the old one as a template.

Jerry, it is a square neck, and your correct it is the nut is bone. I don't get it out much any more but had occation to this week and when I took the tention off the first string and retned it I could hear the squeek as it released. Don't think I'll let any one tinker with it. It has served me well for 30 plus years, best let it aloe, maybe play it a little fore would help. I use the Lap Steel more, so the DoBro goes begging.
