Not sure it's dead?

Post by Jack Strayhorn »

Those of you like me that thinks our music is in the past, may need to reconsider. Went to see Loretta in Greensboro, NC tonight. She was in very good voice and the band was great. Very large hall and sold out. The interesting thing was the age demographic. People of all ages and a very good showing of those in their 30's. Completely surprising. Sreaming, yelling, just like her shows in the 70's. Music row should take note. People are starving for the real deal, and these younger folks knew the difference.

Jack, you and I know it. We see it. Nashville will be the last to know. They're always followers.

The reason for so many younger people showing up can also be the album "Van Lear Rose" which was produced by Jack White from the White Stripes.

Nashville will be the last to know.
They will also be the last to admit it.

In general, it's a lot easier to make a "middle of the road" product and spend money marketing it, to get the volume of sales. As the quote says, "it's show business, not show art."

Loretta made mention of a necklace she was wearing being a gift from Garth Brooks. Then she mentioned that Garth was touring again, with no crowd reaction. Then she commented on what a great entertainer Garth is, again with no crowd response. Later in the show after singing an old Conway duet, she commented on still believing that Conway was one of the greatest to have lived and the roof almost blew off the building. People of all ages, some of which should not have even known who Conway and Loretta were, knowing all the songs. Clearly should have known who Garth Brooks is and could have cared less. Just an interesting observation.
