Jerry Lee Lewis and The Buckaroos

Post by Zachary Walters »

This was only touched on once in a post a few years back, but I had to mention it again. Here's a video from Hee Haw with the Killer himself, playing his first #1 hit with the Buckaroos.

Not sure who the fiddle-man is.

Kenny Lovelace, and he's been Jerry Lee's band leader for 40+ some years.

I would say that in 1957 Jerry Lee was the definition of Rock And Roll!

A Footnote to my post.Back around 56,57,somewhere in that timeframe a band I was in got to open a show for Jerry in Columbus Georgia,Remember we went on his old ragged Silver Eagle and met his new child bride. That was a half century ago.Over fifty years have been lucky enough to be on stage with super stars, not so super stars,a lot of nice guys and assorted SOB'S. Have forgotten 99 percent of these shows,But remember that show with Jerry like it was yesterday. When he is gone his shoes will NEVER be filled. YOU BETCHA,DYK?BC.

Who would have bet that JLL would have been the last one living out of the major Memphis rockers? I do believe he is a high mileage unit.

I saw him on the Don Imus TV show maybe a year ago and he was quite frail--almost doddering. Could it be the alimony that keeps him going? I dunno.

Here he is in better days, having his way with Angie D and a screwdriver. Hmmmm.........wonder what he is thinking?

If you want to watch a great DVD, get "The Last Man Standing".
It stars Jerry Lee and it is sort of a tribute to him with a lot of other performers on it.
Of all the old Sun Records bunch, he is the "last man standing".
He doesn't look to be in the best of health but he still had enough in him to kick the piano stool out of the way on the last number!
And as was stated above, he certainly must be a high mileage model! :whoa:

Yep Tony, that is the Jay Dee. I can't believe I got to work with him, Al Bruno, Archie Francis and Clyde Griffin in the late 60's in Ca. We were the Indeviduals. They all came to my house in Okc about 6 or 7 yrs ago for a reunion. I had one of our big clubs book us in for a big Sunday afternoon Jam session, the place was packed. Oh such sweet, sweet memories. Later guys, db
