Yup,,,, I agree,, Been watching her at the Circle T Arena on RFD TV... awesome. She is one of several I would like to see make it.. Pauline Reese singing "Pawn Shop Buckle" is one,, and Julie Richardson who can be found at "John A's" Sunday night jams is another. Thanks for the info !

You can order Amber's CD's from Heart of Texas Records at http://hillbillyhits.com/hotrecords/amberdigby.html

Amber's CD's are great: between her voice and talented musicians like Dicky Overbey on pedal steel (and Rick Price and Dave Biller), Bobby Flores on fiddle, Randy Lindley, Justin Trevino, Jake Hooker, Jim Loessberg etc....this is the real deal for some great country music.

I think she's one of the best female country artists out there now. Her albums are also available on iTunes for download. She's the real deal when it comes to country. And the steel...oh, my...the steel :D

Absolutely one of my favorites and one of the best in the business. I decided to listen to all 4 CD's tonight. Great stuff for sure. But... There's not a lot of variety in her material. After listening to all 4 back to back, I felt I had spent 3-1/2 hours listening to the same 5 or 6 songs. Even the steel playing (which is first class playing - Overbey is one of my faves) started to get on my nerves. I was ready to welcome some Nashville style pop song to break things up. That is probably why she will never get a chance in Nashville or win any awards, even though she smokes most of the women in Nashville. Texas turns out some great stuff.

One thing I really noticed tonight was, when I closed my eyes and listened in headphones, I could hear Loretta Lynn come through her voice when she did the Loretta cover tunes. Great stuff.

I just need to listen in smaller doses.

I love Amber's singing. She doesn't over sell a song and beat it to death the way all the "American Idol" wannabees do. She has that quality that the true greats have of bringing you into the story. Like how Sinatra makes you feel like you are the only one in the room and he is whispering in your ear. First time I heard Amber live I was moved the way I was when I first heard Nora Jones on the bandstand. Plus Amber's pitch and phrasing are absolutely dead on perfect. She is on the same level as Jo Stafford in my book. Whatever it is that singers are supposed to have Amber has it. I would listen to her sing the phone book !

She's a big Loretta fan, as you can tell. Her dad played bass for Loretta.

Amber's voice is solid and complete. She can sound soft like she's cooin' a love song, nasty like she's givin' someone hell, melancholy like we all feel sometimes, or happier than the dickens.

She's tops with me.

Thanks Cal. I just read where her mother sang harmony for Connie Smith. I also hear a lot of Connie and even some real early Reba in Amber. Great Singer for sure. I decided today to check YouTube videos for her, just watched "It All Depends On How You Drink The Wine". Great singing as well as kick-ass guitar playing by Randy Lindley, not to mention Dickey who is a real killer (saw him once when he was with Milsap). One thing that really impresses me is the style of lead guitar playing. Nice and clean, true to the style being played, not overdriven a lot and full of speed licks. Two thumbs up for Randy. Her backup band really reminds me of the long lost great road bands like the Coalminers and Twittybirds. Two of the best bands to ever step onto a bus.

I really hope Amber can break through and get the recognition she deserves.

OK, back to more videos.... :D :D :D

EDIT: Just watched this VIDEO and my hair on my arms is standing up. Close to tears just remembering how good country used to be, and can still be. Amber is keeping alive just as Georgette Jones and Dawn Sears are. These 3 ladies top my favorites list.

Thank you Leann for this thread. I haven't listened to Amber in a while.

Yeah, Amber's "too country for Nashville", something you hear here a lot. If she got a big record deal they'd hand her over to some handlers who'd change her hair, clothes, style, songlist and band and she wouldn't be the great country singer that we know her as now. Her awesome talent would be decimated and homogenized into a pap (whoops, I mean pop) smear, and she'd likely lose most of her charisma and fan base. It's happened before, grasshoppers, many times. I certainly can't speak for Amber, but If I were in her position I'd be happy working the Texas circuit with all those awesome pickers and remaining true to my roots. I wish her all the success she deserves, but I don't really want to share her with the targeted Nashville demographic who would, in theory, buy her CD's. I'd rather keep her to myself, and the other, though much smaller, demographic who share my taste in country music.

I hate to say it, but Cal is right. Nashville would ruin Amber. I wish she could get the fame and fortune that people like Taylor Swift get without selling out. She deserves it.

Y'all might be interested to know that besides being FROM Nashville, Amber has spent a lot of time there recently. She is following the next logical step in her career, namely writing and performing her own music. She absolutely loves those 4 hour gigs in the Dancehalls and stuff, but this is not where it ends for her. You might look for one of her collaborations on Vince Gill's newest record to get a glimpse of another aspect of her truly great talent. Her songs are fresh and current, but at the same time I feel they will appeal to fans of traditional country music. Her career is definitely advancing but one thing is for sure, she is steadfast in the pursuit of success on HER terms only. In other words, don't expect to see Dicky Overbey onstage wearing a mesh tank-top and leather pants anytime soon. >:-)
