I miss him too. it's really peculiar how huge his music is for a lot of people. But when I go back and listen it makes perfect sense. I feel like he knew how to write his emotions into songs in a very tasteful and inclusive way, and he happened to be the perfect person to deliver them too. It's hard for me to even estimate the impact he's had on my life.

Truly one of the top five most terrible days of my life was Dec. 8, 1980, the day John was murdered by a freakin' lunatic.

Here is something that makes me feel like I'm definitely getting old: I was reading the celebrity birthday listing on page two of our paper this morning, and Sean Lennon turns 35 today.

Andy, in the context of being a blissful daddy looking forward in life, once afraid and reclusive, having survived while others hadn't, now ready to rock, he says "they say life starts at 40, yeah..."

I pass the shop daily that sold the murder weapon to the killer, constant reminders of Lennon's music, life, and death.

Its a small world after all, as so many musicians have been influenced by John Lennon in one way or another. Directly through the Beatles or his own music, or the countless successions of musicians who quote him as an influence, kids today can look at him as one of the grandfathers of modern music.
70 sounds about right age for a grandpa and I miss his heart and soul.

I've told this story a few times, so forgive if I'm repeating it here.

My high school bandmate went to the Dakotas with his friend Paul in the hopes of seeing John. Paul was an acquaintance of John's and said that sometimes he let him take pictures of him. Paul was going to show John some pics or something like that. John used one of Paul's pics for the Watching The Wheels sleeve.

John finally appeared and talked with Paul and my friend for minute. There was another guy there, too, named Mark, who handed John his LP for him to sign. Paul snapped some pics of John signing the record. It turns out that Mark was Mark David Chapman and a few hours later John would be dead.

BTW, the photographer's name is Paul Goresh. I know he's told the story a million times. I never really talked much with my friend about it, but I know he was devastated.
