It's the weekend, and it's snowing up here in the "Near East". Good time to settle in with a friendly crossword puzzle that might even have YOUR name hidden in it somewhere...!

Not snowing here in Georgia - but halfway to the finish . . . and running solo so far. Who needs help with this SIMPLE stuff anyway?? I learned all about Cambodia in Dental school. Image (just love the little santa smiley!) Image Image Image

Jim--I've completed the puzzle (twice, actually) and something happens but I come up empty--no code number or whatever fireworks and streamers are supposed to eminate from my computer. So as far as I can tell, my pulitzer worthy accomplishments will go unacknowledged. What have I done wrong (to deserve such disrespect Image) (BTW--not to brag but I usually finish the Sun. Times puzzle--well ok, yes, to brag--and they don't fete me for my accomplshment either.)

Jon, I think you've answered your own question. Y'know how, in the casinos, they don't let professional "card counters" come in and play because they have an "unfair advantage"? Well, anybody who can do the NYT Sunday Crossword Puzzle is considered a "professional" and automatically disqualified from participating. Your name and email address must be out there on the web on a blacklist somewhere and is automatically being recognized by my program. I know guys like you: mild mannered, unassuming guys who'll sweet-talk ya then take you for a ride... Yeah, sure, I do...

On the other hand, if ya want to just print off a copy of the puzzle and fill it out by hand (which should be easy by now, since you've already done it twice), you can fax it to me at 215-782-8291, or scan it and email it to me at jim@jimcohen.com . I'll check it over manually; there's no up-front charge for this service, but if you win, I'll have to deduct 2 of the songs from the CD you win, as a service fee. Image

I never saw a place to enter my email address--I must have not been paying attention. Anyway, there were some problems on the puzzle--I mean, forum leader b0b Lub? Come on, man! It don't make no sense!
(I didn't say I finished the Times puzzle correctly).

----aha! My pop-up blocker was messing things up. Now I'm in. As long as there's no urine test I've got a feeling I should start writing my acceptance speech. <FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by Jon Light on 06 December 2003 at 08:04 AM.]</p></FONT>

Hi Jim,
Do we still get a choice of CD or a tablature set? Also, was wondering if you have an online index of your tab sets? Looking forward to this month's challenge.

OH! So NOW I see the problem: You're putting in WRONG LETTERS! LOL! OK then, Jon, you can play with us. Now, turn off your pop-up blocker and start over.

Colm, yes, you would have a choice between any of the following, were you to be this month's lucky winner:

"Four to the Bar" CD
"Finally Here" CD
"Bop-a-billy Swing!" CD (with Beats Walkin')
"Western Omelette" CD (with Beats Walkin')
"Four to the Bar" T-Shirt (with CD cover art)

... or any of the following tab/track sets:

"Someday Soon" (E9)
"Tara's Theme" (E9)
"Surfer Girl" w/bonus: "Nights in White Satin" (E9)
"Jazzy C6 Instruction" (5 tunes, incl: "Straight No Chaser", "Deep in a Dream", "Tenor Madness", "Blue Monk" and "Cool Blues")

... or my first-born male child. OK, Colm? (By the way, if you choose the latter, I must forewarn you that college starts in just over 3 years...) Image

Thanks Jim, what a deal, isn't it wonderful? You do all that work to get a crossword puzzle together, get to grade our papers, get to be the object of a lot of griping, moaning, and groaning while we try to figure out the puzzle, spend your time as a computer consultant to help us process our entries, get embroiled in potential hint scandals (Donnagate), and then after all that, you get to dip into your pocket to send out some of your fine materials. Priceless ! I salute with this five-star Santa hat award Image Image Image Image Image

I'll nix on the first born, mine is 5 years <font color=red>til</font> college.

Good going, Colm!
Hey, I'm assuming you're going to pass me the answer sheet at Walmart - same as we did before. Remember . . . secure it under the blue towel display on the Martha Stewart sale table! shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Not a word to anyone . . . I sent mine in on Dec. 6th. I think they're a lot of fun, even if Jim won't let me win this month. I received my prize for last month's puzzle..... the new, "Four To The Bar" CD. It is very nice. If you haven't heard it, you owe it to yourself to check it out.

Thanks for all the interest in the puzzle, folks. I've received quite a few "solutions" this month, even including a few correct ones! Image I can't tell ya if you got it right or wrong until the end of the month when the solution is posted, so hang in there. And, Bob, I'm glad you're enjoying the new CD!

Now for the rest of you, if ya don't want to wait to see if you won it for free, there's still time to purchase one thru the Forum in time for the holidays (end of shameless commercial. We now return you to your regularly scheduled program...)<FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by Jim Cohen on 12 December 2003 at 01:35 PM.]</p></FONT>

Jim - I'm actually VERY surprised you even have some left! FABULOUS project!!!!
P.S. I'm kidding about getting help from Colm (this time Image, but there's something about the "due-East" part of both puzzles that really trips me up. However, if you think about it, I favor my right brain, which controls the left side of the body. But I actually write with my right hand. This confuses my very busy left side of my thinking - as there is ONLY ONE ANSWER. It's tough being genius level. Everyone expects so much out of you. How on earth is it that I cannot figure the solution to "BLACK TEA"? No . . . don't dare tell me. I WILL figure it out. Even pretty sure I got the Vietnamese currency clue.
Anyway, YES - great CD fit for anyone, even those who are hard to buy for. (well, of course unless they already have it Image)<FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by Donna Dodd on 12 December 2003 at 02:14 PM.]</p></FONT><FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by Donna Dodd on 12 December 2003 at 02:14 PM.]</p></FONT>

Dearest Mr. Nabdodd,

I'm writing to notify you that in order to win our contest, you must first submit your proposed solution to the puzzle. Your good looks and talent will earn you an interview with the puzzle designer but, alas, not the Grand Prize. Unfortunately, Mr. Nabdodd, upon examination of our files, we have no record of your having submitted a solution to the December puzzle. The proverbial time is a'wasting but there are still a few days left to apply your nose to the grindstone (or is it your shoulder; either way, we think it hurts). Should it be the case that you, indeed, at one time did submit a proposed solution to the December puzzle, then it did not arrive here due to some mysterious cause and a second solution will need to be provided by December 31st. Of course it is always much easier the second time around after solving it correctly the first time unless, of course, well...

But IF YOU DO WIN, then YOU and the ENTIRE NABDODD FAMILY will be ENTITLED to choose ANY ONE ITEM from our FABULOUS CATALOG. (We happen to have a special on "Four to the Bar" T-Shirts right now, the result of an unfortunate oversupply order; but, our loss COULD BE YOUR GAIN if you are our LUCKY WINNER!) So take advantage of the moment, Mr. Nabdodd, and send in your solution code right away!

Cordially yours,
The Mgmt

We had a call from a dear gentleman friend of ours who knew about my favorite pastime, Bird-watching, especially when I’m on holiday in New Zealand. Looking back, his line of questioning was a bit suspicious. But of course good bird-watchers don’t “shake the limb” (so to speak), but I did watch cautiously as he pecked and pecked and continued to dig for grub.

I feel perhaps that my solution has been intercepted by the Canadian government for means other than that intended by the originator. I will surely resubmit my results within a secure environment following Monday morning tea, a game of Squash, and completion of the New York Times Crossword. Please have YOUR PEOPLE available to speak to MY PEOPLE about escalating this exchange.
Sincerly,
The Very Cross Nabdodd Princess
