The pitch of a Blackhole

Post by Jimmy Douglas »

I saw on this program

http://www.abc.net.au/tv/guide/abc1/201 ... %26%20Song

That the pitch of a black hole is Bb.... 57 octaves below what we can hear.

I think I will put that change on a lever next time!

I wonder how thick the diameter of a string has to be to make such a low sound :?

I always wondered what the natural frequency of an aircraft carrier mooring cable might be...

Joachim, I think Ray is on to something. I was pondering suspension bridge cable. That would be in the light guage set I suppose.

Dan I imagine that particular hum would probably be an audible part at any active Vulcan gig. That hum would be hard to control at the amp. Hum from single coils would possibly have something to do with it. Imagine the humbucking pickup required there.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the resonant frequency of the Planet Earth is a Bb, too... uh-oh... :whoa:
So is the garbage compactor... double super uh-oh... :whoa: :whoa:
My "C6th" pedal steel is tuned to Bb... triple super-duper uh-oh... :whoa: :whoa: :whoa:

Good thing it's Bb... if a Black Hole were a semitone lower we'd have to call it an A-hole

So how many cycles per second(hour?) would that be?

I didn't see the show, but I calculated 6 cycles per 1,000,000,000 years.
